Exercising outdoors can be a refreshing break from the gym. There’s another benefit to breaking a sweat in nature: it can improve your mood and self-esteem. Consider hiking the trails located in BC Hydro recreation sites that are open into late fall and even year round. On Vancouver Island north of Campbell River, look for signs to Elk Falls Provincial Park and the BC Hydro Interpretative Centre. Here, the 2-km wheelchair accessible Millennium Trail takes you through old-growth evergreens to the new suspension bridge perched 60 metres above Campbell River for a stunning view of Elk Falls. In Mission, the Hayward Lake Reservoir offers two walks near the water: the 6-km Railway Trail and the 10-km Reservoir Trail. Since the routes intersect you can challenge yourself to go the entire distance. Get details on all our rec sites at bchydro.com/recreation.
